About Us

The Institute for Educational Administration & Leadership- Jamaica (IEAL-J) is a Virtual Institute. It was founded in October 2012, and is a registered educational charity in Jamaica, funded by private donations, targeted fund-raising and Membership Fees.The IEAL-J is the National Affiliate of the Commonwealth Council for Educational Administration & Management (CCEAM). It is an Institutional Member of the International School Leadership Development Network (ISLDN) – a global network of researchers interested in social justice and educational leadership located in multiple countries.The IEAL-J has signed Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) with the University of Technology, Jamaica (UTech), the University Council for Educational Administration (UCEA) in the USA, and the University of the Commonwealth Caribbean (UCC) to collaborate in areas of mutual interest, in particular, in capacity-building and research skills development.

 

Vision/ Mission

 The vision/ mission of the IEAL-J is to lead the transformation of Jamaica’s educational leadership & management landscape through its three pillars: research, innovation and capacity-building.

 

Our Work and Approach

The work of the IEAL-J contributes to public understanding, and capacity-development in educational leadership & management in Jamaica (and beyond) through four main activities:

International Conference

In partnership with its valued partners, the IEAL-J leads the staging of the Bi-Annual “International Conference on Educational Leadership & Management” held in Jamaica.

Public Lectures

In partnership with its valued members, the IEAL-J presents two Public Lectures annually, which are usually based on high quality research, and focused on a topical issue. Public Lecturers are by invitation only and are usually led and managed by one of our four Research Interests Groups (RIGs), namely: Educational Administration & Social Justice STEM Education Curriculum & Innovation Health, Well-being & Society

Capacity-Development Seminars/ Workshops:

The IEAL-J provides seminars and workshops to education officers, school leaders and teachers on a range of topics, which are intended to deepen and widen their leadership skills and understanding. Previous seminars/ workshops include: “Skills required for 21st Century School Leaders/ Leadership: Evidence from Research” “Emotional Intelligence and School Leadership: What’s the Connection?”

Consultancy

The IEAL-J can offer consultancy service and advice to educational institutions at all levels level in any aspect of educational leadership & management, and/or in any area related to its four Research Interests Groups (RIGs).
